Formatting Rules change how item titles look across your whole organization, based on the item's status. The first rule, Strikethrough Style for Statuses, marks work that will not be done. Pick a status such as Cancelled, and every item in it shows its title in red with a line through it, and an X on its item icon.
Without it, a cancelled item looks like any other item, or like finished work when its status counts as done. With it, nobody mistakes cancelled work for open or completed work, whichever screen they are on.
Configure Settings → Admin → Formatting Rules. The page needs the Manage Org Configuration permission (MANAGE_ORG_CONFIGURATION), held by the default Owner and Admin roles. Changes save as you make them; there is no Save button.
Under the Item Style heading:
While the rule is on, every work item whose status is in the list shows:
This applies wherever an item's title appears: the Items table and every list built on it (My Work, board list views, an item's child items), board cards, the Map Value view, Track Progress (the name column and the label on each bar), the item drawer header, search results and the Cmd/Ctrl + K search, relationship lists and item link previews.
Good to know:
The same rule can mark subtasks. Under the Item Style heading, Strikethrough Subtask Statuses lists every subtask status, built-in and your own; tick the ones whose subtasks should show their title in red with a line through it, for example a Cancelled subtask status. It applies wherever subtasks appear, and only while the Strikethrough Style for Statuses checkbox is on.
Global Automations
Turn on the organization-wide workflow automations: sync item dates with their cycles, complete parents automatically, propagate changes with Link Mode, and let child items start in their parent's sprint and team.
Time Tracking Lock & Soft Close
Close the books on logged time: Lock makes entries in closed periods uneditable everywhere, Soft Close flags late entries without blocking them, and one switch decides whether time can be logged on parent items at all.
