How to Add Items to a Gantt Chart in DevStride

Adding initiatives and milestones to your Gantt chart is a straightforward process. This guide will walk you through adding both to your Gantt chart.

Adding an Initiative

An initiative is a major effort or project that consists of multiple tasks and milestones.

Step 1: Open the Initiative Form

• Click the + Add to Gantt button located at the top right corner of the Gantt view.
• Select Initiative from the drop-down menu.

Step 2: Fill in Initiative Details

• In the NEW INITIATIVE form that appears, enter the name of the initiative in the NAME field.
• Add an optional DESCRIPTION for the initiative.
• Choose a COLOR to represent the initiative on the Gantt chart.

Step 3: Create the Initiative

• Once all details are filled in, click the Create Initiative button to add the initiative to the Gantt chart.

Adding a Milestone

A milestone marks a significant point in the project timeline.

Step 1: Open the Milestone Form

• Click the + Add to Gantt button next to the New Gantt button.
• Choose Milestone from the options.

Step 2: Fill in Milestone Details

• In the NEW MILESTONE form, enter a NAME for the milestone.
• Provide an optional DESCRIPTION.
• Select a COLOR for the milestone.
• Set the DATE for when the milestone is expected to be reached.

Step 3: Create the Milestone

• Click the Create Milestone button to add the milestone to your Gantt chart.

Assigning Tasks to an Initiative

You can group tasks under an initiative for better organization.

Step 1: Select the Task(s)

• Click on the checkbox next to the task(s) you want to assign to an initiative.

Step 2: Add to Initiative

• With the task(s) selected, click the + Add to Gantt button.
• Choose Initiative and then Select an initiative from the dropdown menu that appears in the pop-up.

Step 3: Confirm Addition

• After selecting the initiative, click on Add Items to assign the selected task(s) to the chosen initiative.
